New Mama Dal

New Mama Dal is a slow-cooked lentil dish with spices and whole milk yogurt, simmered to enhance flavors.

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add the rinsed red lentils. Cook until the lentils are soft, about 20 minutes.
  2. In a separate pan, heat ghee over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  3. Add chopped onions to the pan and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and sliced green chili. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates from the mixture.
  6. Pour the cooked lentils into the pan and mix well. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Stir in the whisked whole milk yogurt and garam masala. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  8. Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro before serving.

  • Rinse and soak red lentils for 30 minutes before cooking.
