Blackened Fish

Blackened fish is prepared by coating fish fillets with a spice mix and searing them in a hot skillet.

Instructions

  1. Combine paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, and salt in a small bowl to create the blackening spice mix.
  2. Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  3. Generously coat both sides of the fish fillets with the spice mix, pressing it into the fish.
  4. Heat a large cast iron skillet over high heat until it is very hot.
  5. Add butter to the skillet and allow it to melt and start to brown slightly.
  6. Place the fish fillets in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until the spices form a dark crust and the fish is cooked through.
  7. Remove the fish from the skillet and serve immediately with lemon wedges.

Prep

  • Thaw fish fillets if frozen, at least 2 hours before cooking.
