Sausage and Spinach Casserole

A baked casserole combining sausage, fresh spinach, and cheese with a creamy sauce, perfect for a hearty meal.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until onion is translucent.
  3. Add the Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in the chopped spinach and cook until wilted. Remove from heat and set aside.
  5. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  6. Gradually whisk in whole milk and heavy cream, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
  7. Add grated parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg to the sauce. Stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
  8. Combine cooked pasta, sausage-spinach mixture, and cheese sauce in a large mixing bowl. Mix well.
  9. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  11. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.

  • Thaw sausage if frozen.
