Chinese BBQ pork (Char Siu)

Char Siu is a Chinese BBQ pork dish made by marinating pork in a sweet and savory sauce, then roasting it to perfection.

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, sugar, Chinese five spice powder, minced garlic, red food coloring, sesame oil, and rice wine to create the marinade.
  2. Place the pork shoulder strips in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish and pour the marinade over the pork.
  3. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to marinate.
  4. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  5. Remove the pork from the marinade and place it on a wire rack set over a baking tray lined with foil.
  6. Roast the pork in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  7. Baste the pork with the remaining marinade and continue roasting for another 20-25 minutes, or until the pork is cooked through and caramelized.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the pork rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
