Kwek kwek is a Filipino street food made by coating quail eggs in an orange batter and deep frying them until crispy.

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and ground black pepper.
  2. Add cold water and annatto powder to the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth batter forms.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 180 degrees Celsius.
  4. Dip each quail egg into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
  5. Carefully drop the coated eggs into the hot oil and fry until the batter is crispy and golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Remove the fried eggs from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  7. Serve hot with a dipping sauce of your choice.

Prep

  • Boil and peel quail eggs at least 1 hour before cooking.
