Hachis parmentier

Hachis parmentier is a French dish made by layering seasoned minced beef with creamy mashed potatoes and baking until golden.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
  2. Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 20 minutes.
  3. While potatoes are boiling, heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onions, carrots, and garlic; sauté until softened.
  4. Add ground beef to the pan, cook until browned. Stir in thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer the beef mixture for 10 minutes, then remove the bay leaf.
  6. Drain the potatoes and mash them with butter and warmed milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Spread the beef mixture in a baking dish, top with mashed potatoes, and sprinkle with grated Gruyere cheese.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
