Tarte Tatin

Tarte Tatin is a classic French upside-down caramelized apple tart made with puff pastry and cooked in a skillet.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius.
  2. In a 25 cm oven-safe skillet, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns a golden caramel color.
  3. Add the butter cubes to the caramel and stir until melted and combined.
  4. Arrange the apple quarters in the skillet, rounded side down, in a circular pattern.
  5. Drizzle lemon juice and vanilla extract over the apples.
  6. Cook the apples in the caramel for about 10 minutes, basting occasionally with the caramel.
  7. Remove the skillet from heat and carefully place the puff pastry over the apples, tucking the edges inside the skillet.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. Carefully invert the tart onto a serving plate.
