Beef Nilaga

Beef Nilaga is a Filipino boiled beef soup with vegetables, prepared by simmering beef shank with potatoes, cabbage, and green beans.

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine beef shank and water. Bring to a boil and remove scum that floats on top.
  2. Add onion and black peppercorns. Lower heat, cover, and simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours or until beef is tender.
  3. Add fish sauce and potatoes. Continue to cook for about 5 to 7 minutes or until potatoes are halfway tender.
  4. Add carrots and cook for another 3 minutes.
  5. Add green beans and cabbage. Cook for another 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender yet crisp.
  6. Season with salt to taste. Serve hot.

Prep

  • Thaw beef shank in the refrigerator overnight if frozen.
