Rote grutze
Rote Grütze is a traditional German dessert prepared by simmering mixed berries with sugar and thickening with cornstarch.

Instructions
- In a large saucepan, combine the mixed berries and sugar. Stir gently to mix.
- Add the water to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
- Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes until the berries are soft.
- In a small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in a little cold water to make a slurry.
- Gradually stir the cornstarch slurry into the berry mixture, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Continue to simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and lemon juice.
- Pour the Rote Grütze into a serving bowl or individual dessert cups and let it cool to room temperature.
- Serve chilled with a dollop of whipped heavy cream on top.
