Poori

Poori is a deep-fried Indian bread made from unleavened whole wheat flour dough, rolled into small discs and fried until golden brown.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt.
  2. Add melted ghee to the flour mixture and mix well until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Gradually add water to the flour mixture, kneading to form a smooth and pliable dough.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  5. Divide the dough into small balls, approximately the size of a golf ball.
  6. Roll each ball into a small disc, about 4 inches in diameter, using a rolling pin.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat until hot.
  8. Gently slide a rolled disc into the hot oil and fry until it puffs up and turns golden brown, flipping once.
  9. Remove the poori from the oil and drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining discs.
