Jeera Rice

Jeera Rice is a simple Indian dish made by cooking basmati rice with cumin seeds and spices, offering a fragrant and flavorful accompaniment.

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil and add the rinsed rice. Cook until the rice is 70% cooked, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a separate pan, heat ghee over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  4. Add bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon stick, and green cardamom to the pan. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Add the partially cooked rice to the pan with the spices. Gently mix to combine, ensuring the rice is coated with the ghee and spices.
  6. Add salt to taste and mix well. Cover the pan and let the rice cook on low heat for about 10 minutes or until fully cooked.
  7. Once cooked, fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped fresh cilantro before serving.

Prep

  • Rinse and soak basmati rice for 30 minutes before cooking.
