Cabbage Porial

Cabbage Porial is a South Indian stir-fry dish made with cabbage, spices, and coconut, cooked until tender.

Ingredients

Urad Dal (split and skinned)1Tbsp
Curry Leaves (fresh)1Bunch
Green Chili (slit lengthwise)2Count
Turmeric Powder (ground)0.5Tsp
Salt (or to taste)1Tsp
Vegetable Oil (for cooking)2Tbsp
Asafoetida (a pinch)0.25Tsp

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add urad dal and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add curry leaves, green chili, and asafoetida. Sauté for a few seconds.
  5. Add the shredded cabbage and turmeric powder. Mix well.
  6. Cover the pan and cook on low heat for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Add salt and grated coconut. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Turn off the heat and serve hot.
