Khatti Daal (Sour Lentil Soup)
Khatti Daal is a tangy lentil soup prepared by simmering lentils with tamarind, spices, and herbs for a flavorful dish.

| Coriander Leaves (chopped for garnish) | 1 | Bunch |
Instructions
- Soak tamarind paste in warm water and set aside.
- In a pot, add rinsed toor dal and water. Bring to a boil, then simmer until the dal is soft and mushy.
- In a separate pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions, minced garlic, and curry leaves to the pan. Sauté until onions are translucent.
- Add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
- Add the cooked dal to the pan and mix well. Add tamarind water and salt. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Adjust seasoning as needed. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.
Prep
- Soak tamarind paste in warm water for 30 minutes.
