Medu Vada

Medu Vada is a savory Indian snack made by deep-frying a batter of urad dal and spices.

Instructions

  1. Drain the soaked urad dal and grind it with water to a smooth batter.
  2. Transfer the batter to a bowl and add chopped onion, green chili, ginger, curry leaves, crushed black peppercorns, salt, and baking soda. Mix well.
  3. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Wet your hands, take a small portion of the batter, and shape it into a round ball. Make a hole in the center with your thumb.
  5. Carefully slide the shaped batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  6. Remove the vadas from the oil and drain on paper towels. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  7. Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.

  • Soak urad dal overnight in water.
