Pappu Boova (spiced Lentil rice) with Okra fry

Pappu Boova is a spiced lentil rice dish served with crispy okra fry, combining aromatic spices and fresh vegetables.

Instructions

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large pot. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions, green chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté until onions are translucent.
  3. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté for another minute.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
  5. Add soaked toor dal and mix well. Pour in 4 cups of water and bring to a boil.
  6. Add rinsed basmati rice to the pot. Stir well, cover, and cook on low heat until rice and dal are cooked.
  7. In a separate pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil. Add sliced okra and fry until crispy.
  8. Serve the spiced lentil rice hot, topped with crispy okra fry and a drizzle of ghee.

Prep

  • Soak toor dal in water for at least 1 hour before cooking.
